Current User Filter webpart requirements on SharePoint 2010

I recently tried adding Current User Filter on a site which is using Team Site template and web part was just not getting displayed in the page. To make this filter work, I had to disable Wiki Page Home Page feature in Site Settings > Features

I had to provision completely new User Profile Service because it stopped working after patch KB2560890. After installing MS11-074 patch (KB2560890) User Profile Service stopped working. This is known issue described in this blog post. Thanks to Todd Klindt for helping me on this one.
